Équité Association Joins Forces with Crime Stoppers to Protect Canadians Against Insurance Crime

Version Français

Équité Association (Équité) was founded in April 2021, to help protect Canadians and contribute to a more equitable world by tackling insurance crime.

As a national not-for-profit organization, Équité Association supports Canadians to fight fraud by using advanced analytics, intelligence best practices, and coordinated investigations.

Équité provides the industry with a unified organization, delivering improved service and fraud analytics for vehicle and commercial cargo recovery. Leveraging existing relationships with law enforcement, committees, and industry organizations, Équité Association delivers value to its members and Canadians by working to eradicate insurance crime.

Before this partnership with Crime Stoppers, Équité operated its own tips program, which began in 2005. Since then, the association has received close to 10,000 tips, averaging 550 per year. Most of the information came from the public – approximately, 90% – however, regulators, law enforcement, and insurers also used the tip service to report suspected criminal activity.

The new partnership between Crime Stoppers and Équité is a natural fit and benefits both organizations by facilitating resource and information sharing. In order to further protect the anonymity of tipsters, Équité has now transferred its insurance fraud public tip service to local Crime Stoppers programs.

Both organizations have a vision to create safer, more equitable communities across Canada. Fighting fraud is a collaborative effort and Équité is proud to partner with Crime Stoppers. We encourage all Canadians to report information about suspicious activity that can help law enforcement bring criminals to justice and help keep our communities safe. We all have a role to play in eliminating insurance crime.
