Elite Women Work Here

Version française

Équité Association’s VP, Member and Employee Engagement & Chief Marketing Officer, Karrina Dusablon, has been recognized by Insurance Business Canada as a winner of ‘Elite Women 2024’. It’s fitting that this was announced on, International Women’s Day, as this award recognizes women in insurance leadership who have made a meaningful contribution to the industry.

Karrina’s indelible impact on the insurance industry and Équité can be seen in the launch of Équité’s ‘Auto Theft is a Crisis’ public awareness campaign, which included the development and publication of the 2022 Vehicle Theft Trend Report and National Auto Theft Crisis media release. This campaign was one of Équité’s most successful of the year and was referenced in hundreds of media stories, including the CBC, Globe and Mail and Toronto Star.

Karrina is the executive sponsor of Équité’s employee-led culture team and spearheads employee engagement, where she fosters a culture of excellence and employee empowerment. This group has been driving up engagement and laying the groundwork for our authentic, inclusive organizational culture.

Outside of her professional role at Équité, Karrina is a devoted caregiver to her elderly father who is living with Alzheimer’s disease, and volunteers time with Alzheimer’s patients. She passionately advocates for the elderly, immersing herself in understanding Alzheimer's disease, and actively supports fellow caregivers navigating the challenges of having a family member affected by this condition. She also volunteers with a women’s health group to support women’s health and women’s shelters.

Karrina joins a team of elite women leaders at Équité, including her colleague Angel Yau-Vandenburg, VP, Chief Data & Technology Officer, who was named as one of Canada's Elite Women in Insurance in 2023, and Équité’s President and CEO, Terri O’Brien who received the same recognition in 2022.

Organizationally, Équité’s ongoing commitment to embracing equality in the workplace includes:

  • Achieving gender parity at the senior leadership level (directors and above), and at the Board level with 50/50 board representation;
  • Offering bespoke professional development and mentoring opportunities for all employees;
  • Offering women at the management level (and above) the opportunity to enroll in the ISC Groups of “Aspire” or “Executive” membership programs, which include webinars, workshops and mentoring opportunities geared toward and for women; and
  • Enrolment in the Équité Leadership Development Program (ELDP) is offered to all senior leadership.

Équité's core values demonstrate a commitment to equality. Through actions and initiatives, Équité not only stands as a driving force for change within its organization, but also contributes to a broader movement towards a more equitable and inclusive society.
