Équité Association Applauds Government of Canada’s Progress in the Fight Against Auto Theft

TORONTO, ON – October 9, 2025 – Following the Public Safety Canada’s update, Terri O’Brien, President & CEO of Équité Association shares the following statement of support:

Équité Association applauds the important progress made under the National Action Plan on Combatting Auto Theft (Action Plan). Équité’s First Half of 2025 Auto Theft Trend Report revealed the importance of continuing the momentum made in 2024 to combat auto theft.

Équité is proud to have participated in numerous initiatives in support of the Action Plan including:

  • Directly supporting ongoing joint investigative and intelligence teams with police in Ontario and Quebec, including Project VECTOR and Project RECHERCHER.
  • Working with the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) to provide highly specialized vehicle examinations as well as develop and implement an information sharing strategy for vehicle import and export data.
  • Providing insurance industry recommendations to address fraudulent vehicle registration including the Inter-provincial Records Exchange (IRE) initiative.
  • Advocating for the amendment of immobilization standards to make vehicles more difficult to steal.

Équité continues to work in close collaboration with Public Safety Canada and the Ministry of Transportation to sustain momentum on this critical safety issue for all Canadians, highlighting the Government of Canada’s commitment to addressing the complexities of auto theft.
