About the Role
We use a wide range of data and intelligence to achieve four objectives:
- Help insurers identify fraud through integrated advanced analytics and investigations;
- Enhance and enable cross-insurer investigations coordinated by Équité;
- Lead stakeholder in vehicle and hard-asset recover & identification services; and
- Support law enforcement, regulators, professional colleges and other public investigative agencies to identify criminals and bring them to justice. We will also endeavour to raise public awareness about consumer scams: how they work and how to detect and prevent them.
Reporting to the VP, Chief Data & Technology Officer (CDTO), the Director of Applied Data & Intelligence Products provides leadership and oversight of Équité’s analytics efforts, driving data-driven decision making, and providing insights that will shape our product development and AI strategy. This role leads a team of data professionals and collaborates closely with cross-functional stakeholders to uncover valuable insights, measure product performance, and enable future innovation including the responsible use and strategic assessment of AI technologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a comprehensive product analytics roadmap that aligns with organizational goals and product objectives.
- Lead a team of data and analytics professionals in executing projects that uncover business opportunities and inform strategic direction.
- Evaluate the performance of existing data technologies and recommend improvements to ensure seamless integration and coordination of multiple data sources, supporting advanced analytics and fraud detection efforts across the industry.
- Assess, test, and recommend AI technologies, including OCR engines, machine learning platforms, and fraud detection tools, focusing on their strategic value and fit for business use cases.
- Identify, prioritize, and drive discovery of high-impact AI use cases that advance Équité’s products and services.
- Bridge the gap between business needs and technical teams by translating strategic objectives into AI solution requirements and guiding experimentation and proof-of-concept efforts.
- Collaborate closely with Data, Software and Platform Engineers and other technical teams to ensure successful implementation, deployment, and scaling of AI models and tools.
- Help the organization prioritize actionable, high-impact data insights that drive measurable business outcomes.
- Own and oversee major data initiatives from ideation through deployment, fostering data-driven decision-making across the company.
- Stay current on emerging trends in AI, analytics, and data science to integrate innovative approaches into Équité’s strategy.
Ideal Candidate Profile
- The successful candidate will have a university degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering or other related discipline.
- 10+ years of experience in data science, analytics, or data engineering with demonstrated leadership.
- Proficient in data analysis tools and technologies, including Python, graph and network analysis, and machine learning frameworks.
- Experience assessing and applying AI/ML platforms, OCR technologies, and fraud detection solutions with a focus on business value.
- Deep understanding of AWS cloud services and experience delivering analytics infrastructure at scale.
- A proven track record of successfully implementing AI and analytics solutions in a high-tech development environment with multi-function teams.
- Sufficient level of technical background to provide highly credible leadership to development teams and to be able to accurately and objectively evaluate complex project risks and issues and proactively raise them to the CDTO.
- Experience helping a company scale through impactful data infrastructure and insights. Proven ability to bring clarity and action to a multitude of data touchpoints.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with a proven ability to strategically build and execute tactically.
- Excellent communication skills to bridge technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong organizational planning and results-oriented work ethic.
