Équité Association has been a long-standing partner of the OPP and the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police, and has been supporting this reform in Ontario, in collaboration with our partners, to gain real traction in the fight against auto crime. In response to this positive announcement, Équité Association offered the following statement of support:

This International Women’s Day, Équité Association celebrates embracing equity by empowering women to grow personally and professionally through professional development, mentoring, and leadership development opportunities. Equity and equality are two words often used interchangeably, but there are key differences. Equity acknowledges that people do not begin life in the same place and that circumstances can make it more difficult for certain people to achieve the same goals. Inequity affects many people, but most commonly and historically, it has impacted marginalized communities and groups, such as women, people of color, disabled people, the economically disadvantaged, and those from the LGBTQ+ community.

March is Fraud Prevention Month and Équité Association and its member insurers are reminding Canadians that insurance crime always has a victim. From auto theft to staged accidents, insurance crime has very real and devastating financial, physical and emotional consequences. It impacts Canadians coast-to-coast and crosses borders, industries and communities.

Équité Association (Équité) and the Canadian Crime Stoppers Association (Crime Stoppers) [CCSA] announced today that they are partnering to make it easier for Canadians to report insurance crimes. In order to further protect the anonymity of tipsters, Équité has transferred its insurance fraud public tip referral service to local Crime Stoppers programs.

The metropolitan areas of Toronto and Montreal are rich hunting grounds for organized auto theft crime rings that funnel stolen vehicles overseas to sell for profit. Each year, Équité Association releases its list of the Top 10 Most Stolen Vehicles across the country. With Canada becoming a source country for the lucrative export trade in stolen vehicles, the Honda CR-V tops this year’s list.

Équité Association’s investigative teams in the Quebec and Atlantic regions are named 2022 IAATI Insurance Investigator(s) (Group) of the Year, an award that recognizes and honors insurance professionals for their outstanding contributions in the area of vehicle theft investigation or insurance fraud investigations.

Équité Association President and CEO, Terri O'Brien, is named one of Canada's Elite Women in Insurance by Insurance Business Canada (IBC), an award that recognizes the achievements of women of merit, breakers of glass ceilings, and role models for those who may one day follow in their footsteps.

Équité Association, Canada’s first not-for-profit organization dedicated to detecting and preventing insurance fraud, will host its inaugural annual general meeting (AGM) for members of the corporation and release its 2021 Annual Report today.

In 2020, Équité Association’s Investigative Services team supported the York Regional Police’s (YRP), far-reaching and complex investigation into fraudulent behaviour of several industries linked to organized crime, with a specific focus on the violent tow truck turf wars across the Greater Toronto Area. This collaborative project was known as Project Platinum.
