Combining expert investigative services and advanced analytics, Équité serves as a unified organization, delivering improved service and fraud analytics for vehicle and cargo recovery. Leveraging relationships with law enforcement, partners and industry organizations, Équité serves as a centre-point for insurance crime across all insurers, and is protecting Canadians by working to eradicate insurance fraud and crime. Équité, is invested in diminishing crime in Canada, and protecting all Canadians against exploitation.

Based on the Insurance Fraud Bureau (IFB) in the UK and the National Insurance Crime Bureau(NICB) in the U.S., we use a wide range of data and intelligence to achieve four objectives:

  1. Help insurers identify fraud through integrated advanced analytics and investigations;
  2. Enhance and enable cross-insurer investigations coordinated by Équité;
  3. Lead stakeholder in vehicle and hard-asset recover & identification services; and
  4. Support law enforcement, regulators, professional colleges and other public investigative agencies to identify criminals and bring them to justice. We will also endeavour to raise public awareness about consumer scams: how they work and how to detect and prevent them.

About the Role

The Legal Analyst reports to the Vice President, General Counsel, Corporate Secretary and Chief Privacy Officer, and will monitor, review, analyze and summarize existing and emerging regulation, related trends, government consultation papers. The Legal Analyst will perform research, prepare summary notes as well as any other work directed by the Vice President, General Counsel, Corporate Secretary and Chief Privacy Officer.

Specific accountabilities include:

The Legal Analyst will be expected to do the following:

  • Supports the work of the Vice President, General Counsel, Corporate Secretary and Chief Privacy Officer
  • Gathers relevant facts, documents, policies and procedures
  • Reviews and analyses the relevant information to provide advice and guidance to the Vice President, General Counsel, Corporate Secretary and Chief Privacy Officer
  • Identifies opportunities and potential and legal, regulatory and reputational risks and engages legal to support, if needed
  • Conducts research and gathers facts
  • Monitors, analyzes and summarizes legislation, government consultation papers
  • Prepares, drafts of legal document, papers and reports.
  • Assists with drafting of policies to ensure compliance with laws.
  • Delivers timely, accurate and efficient service and support.

Qualifications:

  • University Degree
  • At least 3-5 years Regulatory, Legal experience and/or Compliance background required
  • Government experience is welcome
  • Experience with the financial sector is preferred, specifically insurance
  • Ability to balance
  • Strong understanding of the development of regulation
  • Familiarity with analyzing legislation
  • Ability to summarize regulation
  • Experiencing monitoring legislation and future trends
  • Sound judgment and capacity to identify risks as well as opportunities
  • Ability to work independently
  • Strong verbal & written communication skills
  • Good analytical and writing skills and demonstrated ability to distill legal concepts into business friendly language.
